Lecture Overview: |

| |
This lecture reviews areas of current uncertainty in the prevention of colorectal cancer in patients with longstanding IBD. Specifically, the natural history of dysplasia, recent literature in chemoprevention, and the utility of chromoendoscopy will be reviewed. |

By the end of this lecture, participants will be able to:- Understand the difference in management strategies for raised and occult dysplasia when noted in dysplasia surveillance in IBD
- Understand the strengths and limitations in the literature surrounding chemoprevention of colitis-related CRC
- Understand the strengths and limitations of choromoesnodcopic techniques for preventing colitis-related CRC.

| |
Dr. Thomas Ullman is the Director of Mount Sinai’s Center for IBD. A lifelong New Yorker, Dr. Ullman received his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College, and stayed to complete his residency in internal medicine at the New York Hospital and Memorial/Sloan-Kettering. He completed his GI fellowship at Yale University, where he received training in Clinical Epidemiology under the direction of Dr. Alvan Feinstein in the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program. More recently, he was awarded a Masters in Clinical Science from Mount Sinai.
Dr. Ullman joined the faculty of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine after completing his fellowship training in 1999, and has pursued research questions pertaining to the relationship between IBD and colorectal cancer. He was recently promoted to the position of Director of Mount Sinai’s IBD Center and Director of Outpatient Services for the Division of GastroenterologySl. His publications have appeared in numerous peer-review journals. In addition to continuing with this work and conducting clinical trials and investigator-initiated studies relating to IBD, Dr. Ullman maintains a busy IBD-focused practice at the Center for IBD at Mount Sinai. He is a Fellow of the ACG, a member of the AGA, and a member of the CCFA where he is the Chair of the Professional Education Committee and a member of its National Scientific Advisory Committee. |
